Service Stars 🌟
This week Niamh Murdoch shares her service journey and we recognise those who volunteered at the Special Events St. Patrick's Day Ball.
Niamh Murdoch
My name is Niamh Murdoch and I’m a Year 12 student. I’ve been taking part in service opportunities at Villa since Year 9, starting off gradually but increasing my hours of service over the years. I’ve been a member of Young Vinnies since Year 10, have been taking part in the Special Event Canterbury Balls since Year 11 and this year I am a Peer Support leader. I also provide service outside of school to my community. I’ve volunteered my time at the Vinnies shop in Hornby, baked for community pantries, and participated in conservation through tree planting.
Service is important to me because it’s a way to give back to my community. I’m so privileged in my opportunities and experiences so to give back through small acts of service is my form of gratitude and it’s extremely fulfilling. It’s incredibly important, now more than ever, to give back to our communities especially with the cost of living crisis impacting so many individuals and families.
As young Catholics we need to remember to put our faith into action. We can live out our faith through acts of service to others and dedicating a bit of our time to help someone other than ourselves. The more you give the more you will receive in return.
Special Events Canterbury St. Patrick's Day Ball
Last Saturday, we had a group of 31 amazing volunteers who went to the Templeton Community Centre to help at the Special Events Canterbury St. Patrick's Day Ball. It was a fun evening filled with lots of dancing, raffles and getting to know those who have a disability in our community. Thank you so much to everyone who came with a positive attitude and lots of St. Patrick's Day cheer. We look forward to the next event in August.
