Telford Southern Institute of Technology
Four-day taster camp experience
On Tuesday 4 July, I travelled down south to the Telford Southern Institute of Technology to do the four-day taster camp.
I stayed in the student accommodation and ate amazing farm to table meals and experienced what it would be like to live there full-time.
We had access to the student common room and I quickly met the other 35 people attending the camp. Every day I participated in activities that gave me an idea of what I would be doing if I chose to study full-time towards a Diploma of Agriculture.
I experienced using shearing handpieces, cattle yard work, setting up water troughs and calculating the volume of water different animals would need daily. We also learned how to identify plants by name and description, this would be useful for anyone wanting to become an agronomist. I drove an ATV and four-wheeler motorbike.
I loved meeting people from all over the country and making connections with people who have similar interests to me. The overall experience of going down to the Telford Taster Camp was worthwhile, for making great friends, learning a lot about what Telford has to offer and to find out if it is the right fit for tertiary agricultural training.
