Tūhono Kapa Haka Festival

Rachael Lyon —

Villa did incredibly well at Tūhono Kapa Haka Festival at the Christchurch Town Hall last weekend.

The Kapa Haka rōpū has worked very hard to build their skills in waiata, waiata-ā-ringa and haka this year. Last Saturday, they performed at the Tūhono Kapa Haka event held at the Town Hall.

Whilst the group has been steadily growing to around 40 ākonga, 29 ākonga took to the stage and managed to fill the huge space with powerful vibrancy in a slick performance to a receptive audience.

They looked beautiful in their kākahu and piupiu and stood with great pride. Our rōpū placed second for waiata-ā-ringa, third for waiata tira and third in their section overall. Tu meke! We are all so very, very proud of them and eagerly anticipate what this rōpū will do next. A huge thank you to our tutors; Matua Maaka Tau, Daniel-James MacDonald and Whaea Tūī.
