Service Stars 🌟
This week we profile and applaud the service given by Kate Galletly, Jamie Corcoran and Niña Ortaliz.
We sometimes forget that leadership can be an act of service that has positive benefits for individuals and the community. Last Sunday, many of our college leaders volunteered at Kai for the Community.
Kate Galletly (House Captain of Claver) and Jamie Corcoran (Deputy House Captain of Claver)
As Claver House Captains we serve the school through helping out in the Villa community. To us, service is shown through encouraging girls to get involved and by demonstrating a positive House spirit. Service is also demonstrated through looking out for people who might need a hand.
Helping at Kai for the Community is particularly rewarding, especially as we see the gratitude from people whose lives we are making a small but impactful difference to. Kai for the Community is a great way to give back to others and does not require a lot other than preparing a meal and showing compassion and friendliness towards those less fortunate in our community. It is such a blessing and a great opportunity to give back. We highly encourage others to get involved!
Niña Ortaliz
Hi, my name is Niña Ortaliz and I am part of the Service Team this year. I serve because it allows me to have a positive impact on people's lives and to make them realise their value, their beauty, or the love and plans that God has for them.
I serve in my youth group where I lead around 80-90 members aged 12-20 years old. In this youth group we evangelise, draw young people closer to God, and make their faith stronger.
One of my highlights last year was serving at a national conference in Auckland, where people came together to worship God and take time for reflection and healing. Not only am I fulfilled by serving God and by spreading His word, I also make meaningful relationships with people who share the same faith.
