An introduction to the concept of learning a language by using songs, games, chants, cards, and online sites, in order to understand and use familiar expressions and everyday vocabulary.

Open to all students who have a language and cultural background in Le Gagana Samoa.

Le Gagana Samoa (Samoan Language) - Through Te Kura Levels 1-3

Introduction

The aim of this course is to:

• Understand and produce language to communicate beyond the intermediate context about past, present and future events

• Communicate information, ideas and opinions through in varied text types

• Express and respond to personal ideas and opinions

• Interact effectively in a range of familiar situations.

Content

The course follows the New Zealand Curriculum and includes:

• A range of topics are covered such as family, home life, education, holidays, travel, food and drink and celebrations.

Skills

The focus is on developing the language skills of listening, speaking, reading, writing, viewing, presenting and performing with students working towards developing skills to talk about their lives and their immediate environment in authentic contexts.
