Learning online with the VLN Primary is a partnership with participating schools; between school principals, classroom teachers, online teachers, school learning support people and whānau. We all have a part to play to ensure our learners are well supported. Here’s our top ten tips for supporting our learners:
Orientation Book a 30 minute online session for students / staff who are new to VLN to learn about how we can work together and use tools such as Zoom and Google Classroom via firstname.lastname@example.org
Setup a space that’s quiet with a big screen (webcam and mic for bigger groups) Connect with your students’eTeacher to collaboratively share helpful info to support learners, and so the eTeacher email you an invitation to join the VLNP Google Classroom. (Contact email@example.com for help to join.)
Test your connection using Zoom test.
Support new students to join their class at vlnprimary.zoom.us (here’s support info)
Supervise new students during their first online classes to support them to make the most of their online learning opportunity, and log in to Google Classroom.
Ongoing supervision is needed for whole classes and less independent learners.
Join Google Classroom regularly to see resources, assigned classwork and tasks that students have completed. (Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for help to join.)
Allocate time - in addition to the class times - please encourage 30-60 minutes independent work.
Inform us about absences by emailing eTeachers or in the absence form
Feedback We encourage students and staff to complete the regular surveys. We welcome school feedback.
