Celebrating Chinese Language Week

Chinese Language Week was celebrated in the VLN Primary with schools celebrations and attendance at Confucius Institute Auckland's 10 th birthday celebrations.

Zhù nǐ shēng rì kuài lè Happy Birthday Confucius Institute Auckland!

CI Auckland has been supporting online learning of Chinese through the VLN Primary for 6 years. They have assisted us through the provision of MLA, professional support for developing our programmes and making links with schools and Chinese networks. We are privileged to have Janine Chin, CI Manager, as a member of our Governance Group. 

I had the opportunity to represent the VLN Primary at the CI birthday celebration dinner and was treated to some awesome cultural performances by children from Auckland schools and CI Mandarin language assistants.  Also interesting was speeches by a range of dignitaries both Chinese & Kiwi on the importance and benefits of learning Chinese.

Moanataiari School, hosted a Cultural Day of Moon Festival Celebrations.

Activities included:

  • Chinese crafts,
  • Language lessons,
  • Rice eating and Chinese tea ceremonies
Children had a taste of the intricacies of chopsticks and calligraphy. There were Chinese games and Asian dancing to get students inspired about the culture and language of China.
