Citizenship in an online network of learners, teachers and schools
Nā tō rourou, nā taku rourou ka ora te tamaiti This whakataukī encapsulates the notion that while working in isolation might result in survival, working together can take our children onto educational wealth. When learners, teachers and schools share their skills and knowledge there is greater potential to extend learning opportunities that might otherwise not be available. Collaboration and online learning across schools can level the playing field to provide equity and access to learning for students where ever they are. This presentation showcases how schools can participate and engage through citizenship in an online network supported by the Virtual Learning Network (VLN) Primary School. (Workshop Friday 10.15 am Millenium 2)
Collaboration across New Zealand rural primary schools: A virtual learning perspective. This poster showcases research that explores the challenges faced by small rural primary schools in New Zealand and describes how principals in these schools were collaborating online to provide benefits for themselves and their students. It examines principals’ beliefs about online learning, what they thought was necessary for successful collaboration across schools, and how they felt schooling may change in the future. (Poster Presentation Wednesday 1.00pm Digi Lounge)
