Why is a diamond so strong and clear while lead is so brittle and dark?

An introduction into materials and matter.

This class will introduce these components of the Material World and Physical World strand of the Science Curriculum:

  • Investigate molecular structure, (appreciation of states of matter and chemical structures);

  • Investigate and understand changes of states of matter and relate to structure;

  • Understand that the relationship between physical forces, using natural phenomena and matter.

Students will develop their conceptual knowledge about the nature of science and how science knowledge has changed over time. They will share their knowledge and ideas through discussion and guided prompts. There will be opportunities for some hands on activities and simple experiments.

This class is an opportunity to explore the fascinating subject of material and matter. The classes promote curiosity and inquiry, and students are encouraged to be self-directed and collaborative in their learning.
