From the Principal

Mary Curran —

The beginning of this second term has been accompanied by crisp, autumnal mornings and mainly warm days – and yes, rain!

The term began at pace, with Year 11 students departing for their annual camp at Tuurangawaewae Marae. The May Ball is looming for senior students on Friday of next week; tickets will be distributed on the Friday morning, after which students will be released at midday for ball preparations. We recently enjoyed a fun whole-school Cross-country, and the Years 9 & 10 Social with St Paul’s is still to come!

Apart from these annual events, the second term is characterised mainly by solid academic endeavour and culminates in the House Singing competition, which will return to Claudelands Event Centre this year. We also have our learning conferences underway which is an opportunity for parents/caregivers to meet with teachers to discuss their daughters’ progress before the end of the term. I have also embarked on the interview process for our many applications for Year 9 places for 2024.

Our Deputy Principal - Reporting, Priority Learners and Kaupapa Maaori, Mr Errin Nin, recently presented our final National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) school results and statistics to the boards. In 2022, our students again earned some excellent results, which we shared with you in previous issues of DioNews

As a school, we do our analyses to identify strengths and areas targeted explicitly for potential improvement. Below are some slides from this presentation which show where Dio is placed regarding schools in our region. You will see from the graphs our students have performed admirably compared to national averages across all year levels. These results are pleasing and consistent with our academic rigour and achievement commitment.

As always, while such national and regional benchmarking is necessary, our primary goal is to challenge all our students to achieve at the highest level they can.

Blessings,

Mary Curran
