Instrument groups

Ally Zhang —

Term 2 has been full of activity for our instrumental music groups at Dio. On the 22nd of June, the Diorchestra had an amazing workshop with Mrs Victoria Trenwith, the Director of Instrumental Music at Southwell School, where she shared many useful tips which will definitely help the orchestra for upcoming performances and competitions

This week, Diorchestra, Bel Suono Choir and the Jazz band performed at the Central Baptist Church for seniors as part of Dio's ongoing focus on service to the communities. The orchestra performed Havana, Hungarian Dance no.5, David Hamilton’s Piano Concerto, Sleigh Ride and How to Train Your Dragon. The Jazz Band performed On Broadway arr. Jerry Nowak with two singers from Dio and Harlem Nocturne by Earle Hagen. As well as being a fun performance, it is also an opportunity for the orchestra and jazz band to practice their repertoire for upcoming competitions in Term 3, such as the KBB Festival and the Waikato Band and Orchestra Festival.

The orchestra are also looking forward to another workshop in Term 3 with David Squire who is the Musical Director and Conductor of the Westlake Symphony Orchestra and the New Zealand Youth Choir. David has done many workshops with the Diorchestra in the past years and has given amazing advice which has greatly improved the orchestra playing and helped them feel confident for the KBB Festival in Auckland.
