Year 9 Camp 2024

Peppa Gribble —

Year 9 Camp was an unforgettable experience for me. I got to interact with my peers, discover new things about myself, and, most importantly, have a lot of fun.

We started our day with a tramp, which most people found unenjoyable. However, this helped build our resilience. After that, we went to two completely different activities - extreme streams and animal survival. Extreme streams was a peaceful walk where we had to communicate and work together with our activity group. On the other hand, animal survival was a muddy and slightly competitive game based on the food chain. Needless to say, we all got very muddy. But all of these activities were designed to help us make the most of our camp experience, which might not seem apparent initially, but in the long run, it is an excellent opportunity to learn new skills. We had a variety of activities that were all different and helped us learn important life skills. We had archery, orienteering, and top town, which was a great team-building exercise.

The camp was an amazing experience as I was put into situations that were not in my comfort zone. Even though we got to choose three people to bunk with, we were still placed with people we may not have known or hung out with before. At first, I was sceptical, but I quickly warmed up to the idea when I met my bunk crew. They were funny and welcoming to me and my friends. However, sleep was limited, depending on who you were with. It may have been a bit challenging for those who like to sleep. But that's what camp is all about: stepping out of your comfort zone. We all got to know at least one extra person in just three days. Moreover, the camp was made even more enjoyable with all the organising and planning done by the teachers. They created a fun and healthy environment, and it was amazing to see teachers and parents getting involved in the camp experience.
