Mary Curran —

The second term has been a triumphant one for choral singing in the school, with our audition choir ‘Bel Suono’ being selected as one of just 24 choirs to sing at the Big Sing Finale from 25 to 27 August in Christchurch. This was after they won the Excel Trophy for Top Choir at the Waikato/Bay of Plenty Big Sing Competition, alongside a Very Highly Commended award. Congratulations to Cantiamo Chapel Choir who were also selected for the next-level Cadenza competition.

The school is also basking in the glory of another successful House Singing. This is a rare opportunity for every student to share their musical talents while being warmly connected by House spirit and pride. Congratulations to all our House Leaders and all those that showed great courage singing solos, conducting, being an accompanist, or choreographing the Year 13 dance.  Well done to Blake House on a very deserved win.

High school ball season is well and truly here. To some, the time-honoured tradition is a rite of passage and is a great way to celebrate the senior years of secondary school. A spectacular venue (the Wintec Atrium), generous sponsors, delicious catering, stunning theming, a second-to-none Year 13 dance routine and a DJ who got everyone up dancing (even me), all contributed to yet another unforgettable Dio Senior Ball. My thanks to all students and staff who contributed to making this event a success. Thank you to our young people (and staff) for embracing the night with such enthusiasm!

There is clearly much achievement to celebrate as we reach the end of this very busy second term. Enjoy the term break and we look forward to seeing students and staff back refreshed and ready for another productive term.

God Bless
