From the Parents' Association

Anna Sinclair —

The Parents' Association has started term two by helping at the learning conferences. We hope you stopped in, said hi, enjoyed some refreshments, and engaged in light banter.

Thank you to Renee Beere and all the helpers who made this run smoothly.

Our next meeting has been set for Tuesday, 28 May, at 6:00 pm. in the Hubbard room. Everyone is welcome, and it's a great way to meet new people and learn more about our school. We are still on the hunt for a treasurer. If you know your way around a spreadsheet and can add the money, we would love to have you on our team. Contact Anna at dioassociation@wdsg.school.nz to find out more.

A new tradition for the Association is holding an annual guest speaker evening for parents. These evenings will provide relevant and useful information for parents, allowing them to catch up and meet others in our school community.

For the inaugural guest speaker evening, we have organised for Jazz Thornton and Genevieve Mora from our 2024 school charity, Voices of Hope (VOH), to speak to parents on the evening of 12 June at 6.30 pm. VOH is a mental health charity founded in 2017. Over the years, it has grown into a community of people around Aotearoa and the world who contribute to the ever-evolving mental health conversation. Put this in your diary now, as it will address our daughters' current issues and effects on families. We hope students and parents leave this talk equipped with tools to support themselves and their loved ones. More details will follow.

In the last DioNews, we introduced the Parents' Association student reps. In this issue, we would like to introduce our staff reps.

The Parents' Association is well supported by Mary Curran and Sonja Maree, who attend our meetings. We are also very lucky to have the support and talents of both Faith Tautuhi (Kōka) and Reverend Stephen Black as our staff reps.

Kia ora koutou, my name is Stephen, and I am the chaplain ("Rev") at Dio. My main role at school is to promote our special character - living out Christian values of faith, hope and love. Embedded in these is a call to community and building relationships - the bread and butter of our Parents' Association. I am excited to be part of a group looking to friend-raise over fund-raise and find ways to celebrate our school and respond to those who need support. We would love for you to be involved in this, so please watch for events and charitable activities (like meals for those in need).

Ngaa mihi nui, Rev.

Kia ora koutou, my name is Faith Tautuhi, a.k.a Kōka. It has been my privilege to have served at our kura for the past 16+ years as a member of our languages department and pastoral team. Our Parents' Association has always supported our school Kapa haka with purchasing new uniforms and piupiu, and now I can return this aroha. I look forward to being a part of this amazing team of parents who give their time selflessly and provide their expertise without question.
