Hockey
Congratulations to the following students who were selected for the U16 Waikato Hockey Team, playing in the U16 Tri-Series Tournament in July, finishing 2nd overall.

Congratulations to the following students who were selected for the U18 Waikato Hockey Team, who participated in the U18 Hockey National Tournament 1 - 8 July, placing 11th overall.

A further shout out to Holly Landon for being selected to represent the NZ Māori Hockey team in the Hockey 5’s Oceania Cup 10 - 14 July. The team placed 2nd overall, gaining a silver medal and qualifying for the World Cup Hockey 5's tournament scheduled to take place in Oman in January.
Badminton
The Dio Blue Team competed in the Waikato Secondary School Badminton Division 1 Competition. This team placed 1st overall in their division. Congratulations to

Rock Climbing
The Dio 1 Team competed at Waikato Secondary School Climbing Competition in June and placed 2nd overall, ending the day on a high as the top female team overall.

- Grace Walden - 1st for Top Rope and Bouldering, Junior girls
- Sophie Carmichael - 3rd in Top Rope and Bouldering, 2nd in Speed climbing, Junior girls
- Renna Park - 1st in Speed Climbing and 2nd Top Rope and Bouldering, Senior girls.
Netball
During the school holidays, seven senior Dio Netball players were selected to compete in the U18 National Tournament held at Hamilton City Netball Centre. The Eastern Waikato team placed 9th overall, and the Hamilton City B Team placed 20th overall.

Our Junior Netball star, Ryan Woods, was selected to compete at Upper North Island Junior Champs in the Hamilton City U14 A team. The team placed 2nd overall. Well Done, Ryan.

Rugby

Cross-Country - National Secondary Schools
Brooke Devaney and Fleur Street competed at the North Island Secondary Schools Championships. Competing in a large field, these two runners achieved excellent results.
- Brooke Devaney - 29th in the U16 and 9th in the 13-14 age category
- Fleur Street - 37th in the U16 age category.
Both students also presented the WBOP team and competed in the junior girls' team relay, finishing 5th overall. Well done!
Football
1st XI Team
Our 1st XI team played against St Peter's Cambridge 1st XI with a 2-1 win in the WSS Football Cup final - claiming the Shield Title. This is the first time in 10 years that Dio has held the Shield!
Rylee Mardon - USA Football Scholarship
Rylee Mardon is going to a boarding high school in the USA called Westtown which is 30 minutes outside of Philadelphia and 1hr 30m from New York. She received this scholarship to play football, be on the girls' varsity soccer team, and have the opportunity to play for a high-up academy that travels around the US for games and tournaments. Rylee leaves on the 23rd of August. Congratulations, Rylee; we wish you all the best.
Coach - Rachel Major
A huge thank you to Dio Old Girl, Rachel Major, coach of our Junior A Football team. We wish Rachel all the best as she leaves for the USA to continue her university studies.
Swimming - NZSS Swiming Champs
Emma Fletcher and Lani Jarrett competed in the NZ Secondary Schools Swimming Championships in Wellington. Congratulations to both swimmers who made Dio proud and showed diligence by exceeding their personal best goals.
Synchronised Swimming
We celebrate with Eve Donoghue, who competed in the New Zealand North Island Artistic Swimming Championships. Congratulations on the below achievements,
- Two gold medals - Junior Tech Solo
- Third place in the Schools category representing Waikato Diocesan.
- The team was awarded a gold in the Junior Tech Team category for an impacting high-energy routine.

Looking for Sports Trophies
If you received a trophy at our 2022 Sports Awards, these are now due back in. These can be handed into the Sports Office or at Reception. Please return these by Wednesday, August 9.
Sports Awards nominations and process
- The 2023 Sports Awards will cover Dio's sporting achievements between 1 September 2022 and 30 September 2023.
- Summer Blues nominations have already been received.
- Winter Blues nominations, Sporting Excellence and Hall of Fame will open shortly.

Lunchtime activities
Dio Sports Leaders are running lunchtime activities every Tuesday. All students are encouraged to get out and about and enjoy the fun!
Our Dio teams are proud supporters of the FIFA Women’s World Cup! The 1st XI and Junior A teams had the opportunity to attend local games - an excellent time to bond and enjoy international football!
