The first ever term 3 for Year 9’s at Dio has been a blast, now that everyone has had the opportunity to meet everyone and find your people, in the day school and in boarding.
There is never a dull moment in boarding at Dio, whether you're playing in the mud after learning to row or staying in on the weekend with your new sisters, you can never be bored. In the first 4 weeks of this term we spend lots of time after prep practising our lip sync, where we came third. It was a great experience! The year 11s and 13s definitely blew us all away! Now that we have completed it for the first time we have some ideas for year 10. But my favourite activity that has happened this term has been the y9 and 10 dorm challenge which was Battle of the Genres. Each dorm had a genre to dance to,we also had to dress up in costumes. My dorm moxon blue made an amazing hip hop dance that ended up in third place which was pretty good if you ask me!

The year 10 students have engaged in a wide range of activities this term. In one activity, each dorm was assigned a distinct music genre and had to create a dance to that genre, the year 10 students and year 9 students became closer. Due to the fact that both year groups were brought together, there was much joy and laughter. In week 8, the entire boarding community came together for a theme dinner. Good Luck for Exams was the event’s theme and Green was the main colour. It was fantastic to see some girls dressed up in some really unique costumes. This term has been jam-packed with a wide variety of events, all of which have been fantastic!

Having an activity that promotes teamwork and kotahitanga are always good when the activity includes competition. This term in year 11 Davis house we have had the great joy of holding the lip-sync cup for this year's competition. Shout out to Lucy Glover who was the master-mind of our music and dancing, nga mihi ki a koe. We have had to apply ourselves during class time and during prep, lunchtime and after school for our academic derived grade exams and have pushed ourselves to adapt to the new nature (to us) of NCEA level one. We have been introduced to the new leadership structure for 2024 and we are enthusiastic about putting our hands up to represent us as a collective year level and as individuals. Davis house had a quiet end to the term with SDGE’s and winter sports wrapping up, but are excited for what is to come in the summer!! We continue to tautoko and look after ourselves and each other. Definitely some highlights of the term as a house has been watching the women's FIFA cup together at the stadium, playing sports and going all out at lip-sync.

Term 3 is always busy for the girls in boarding, with sports, internals, tournament week and senior-derived grade exams. The annual lipsync year group competition was held this term. All the girls worked together well and found time in their busy schedules to create a performance. The year 12’s this year chose The Lion King. Unfortunately, the win did not come our way and was taken out by the year 11s.
A highlight for many girls this term was the sports, particularly winter tournament week. This is a great week where some represented the school travelling as far as Christchurch to compete followed by senior-derived grade exams the next week. As a result, there were many study sessions in preparation and helped motivate each other to get the job done.
Many girls will be glad that one of the biggest terms is over and it is time to make more memories together in term 4.
