Dux and Proxime Accessit

Dio CommunicationsAugust 22, 2023

Dux is a Latin word meaning 'to lead'. In New Zealand schools, this is the title given to the highest academic achiever for the year. It is the most prestigious award at our school.

Proxime Accessit is another prestigious award, taken from a Latin term, awarded to our school's next highest academic achiever. We also acknowledge the students ranked third, fourth and fifth in academic achievement.

Ranking for these awards is calculated from the Grade Average of a student’s best five Level 3 subjects and only for Achievement Standards completed, marked, moderated and submitted before or on Friday, 22 September 2023, in preparation for our Senior Prize-giving on Thursday, 26 October 2023.

Students from any year level are eligible. The ranking is based on a normalised Grade Average of five Level 3 subjects, considering the different numbers of credits offered in different subjects. These five Level 3 subjects can include previous academic years. If a student in a level other than Year 13 earns one of these awards, the credits may only be used once. The following year will be based only on subjects not utilised to determine the previous award.

NB: Withdrawal from achievement standards during the year may affect student ranking.
