Gateway Options 2024

Kym PlaistedAugust 23, 2023

Gateway programmes give senior students access to structured workplace learning integrated with school-based learning. Students’ learning can be assessed in the workplace and they can achieve credits towards NCEA.

To be eligible, students must:

  • Be in Years 11-13
  • Commit to completing a minimum of 20 credits. This can be achieved through attending First Aid & Health & Safety courses, plus industry-related credits agreed in the learning plan.
  • Commit to completing the entire duration of the work placement. A minimum of five days is required; however, some programmes require more.
  • Be approved through the Deans/Senior Leadership Team.
  • Be reliable and able to complete their work placement without school supervision.
  • Complete all school work missed during any related courses or work placements.

Some students may be approved to complete their work placement during school if this is identified as their career pathway. Other students will need to complete their placement during weekends or school holidays as agreed.

The Gateway Co-ordinator or our providers will arrange work placements. Students will not be responsible for finding their placements.

There is no cost to families for any of the following, providing students complete the entire programme, including all units agreed in the learning plan, plus the full work placement.
