Ella Perry Awarded Scholarship

The SWAPA scholarship was awarded to Ella Perry (Yr13) earlier this term. The SWAPA scholarship (Students With A Passion for Astronomy) is offered by the Royal Astronomical Society of New Zealand (RASNZ). This scholarship provides an opportunity for 10-15 secondary school students who are passionate about astronomy to attend the annual RASNZ conference. The conference was held in Auckland from June 2nd to 4th, 2023. The scholarship covered all expenses, including conference registration, travel, accommodation, and a banquet ticket.

To apply for the scholarship, students from all New Zealand secondary schools were asked to participate in a short essay competition, explaining why they wanted to attend the conference. The University of Canterbury Foundation now manages the award, and many scholarship recipients have gone on to excel in astronomy and astrophysics at  university. Well done, Ella!
