Senior Derived Grade Examinations 12 - 19 September 2024

Dio CommunicationsApril 10, 2024

As we approach the critical period of the academic year, we want to ensure that all our students in Years 11, 12, and 13, including a select few from Year 10, are fully prepared and available for the upcoming Senior Derived Grade Examinations. These examinations are scheduled from Thursday, 12 September, to Thursday, 19 September 2024.

These assessments are a pivotal part of the academic journey, providing valuable opportunities for students to demonstrate their learning and achieve grades that reflect their capabilities and hard work. Therefore, all students must be present and fully prepared to undertake these examinations. For Levels 2 and 3 students, these grades are used by NZQA if the student cannot sit the NZQA Examinations in November due to bereavement or illness, which will have to be verified by a medical certificate, etc.

Key Points to Note:

Avoid Planning Conflicts: We strongly urge parents not to book university visits, trips, or appointments during this examination period. Ensuring your daughter is available to attend all their scheduled examinations is critical.

Procedure for Illness: In the case of illness, following the School's Assessment Policy procedure for Absence from Short Term Assessment Items is imperative. This includes obtaining a medical certificate to qualify for a rescheduled assessment opportunity or to be considered for a further assessment should one be offered. Without a medical certificate, students will be awarded a Not Achieved grade, and no further opportunities for assessment will be provided.

Responsibility to Be Informed:

It is the responsibility of each student and their parents/guardians to be aware of the assessment schedule. This includes checking Course Outlines and Assessment Plans for any assessments scheduled during a planned absence. Uninformed absences will negatively impact course completion and progression opportunities.

Impact of Absences: Please be reminded that absences due to family holidays, routine appointments, and non-educational activities during this period will result in a Not Achieved grade, with no further opportunity for assessment.

Special Circumstances: If a student is selected for school, regional, or national representative groups or for other approved reasons, rescheduling of assessments may be possible if it is manageable and feasible. However, there may be instances where rescheduling cannot be accommodated, leading to withdrawal from the standard.

We understand that unforeseen circumstances can arise. However, planning and communicating with the school well in advance will help us support your daughter’s academic success. Should you have any questions or require further clarification, please do not hesitate to contact Mr Nin, Deputy Principal - Reporting, Priority Learners and Kaupapa Maaori enin@wdsg.school.nz or your daughter’s dean.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter and your continued support in ensuring our students have the best possible opportunities to excel.
