Changes to the Timetable for 2024

Mary CurranNovember 16, 2023

As we strive to foster an environment of continuous improvement and growth at Waikato Diocesan School for Girls, I am excited to share a change in the timetable for 2024 and beyond that will enhance the educational experience for our students and staff.

After careful consideration and thorough evaluation, the leadership team, in collaboration with staff members and the student body, have decided to transition from our current 6-day timetable to a more versatile 10-day timetable system. This change comes as a result of our commitment to providing a learning environment that caters to the diverse needs of our students while optimising their educational journey. This specific change better supports six subjects for Year 11 students while maintaining a pastoral program supporting their development and maximum contact time with their classroom teachers. Years 12 and 13 students will continue to study five subjects as standard. The change also improves the ability of the school to engage with outside providers for educational experiences, thus enhancing the experience for the students.

Key information about the change include:

  • Days on the school calendar will be numbered 1-10 (please see the timetable below). A Monday will always be either Day 1 or Day 6. A Tuesday will always be either Day 2 or Day 7, and so on.
  • School will continue to start at 8.30 am and finish at 3.20 pm, apart from Wednesdays, when the finish time will remain at 2.30 pm.
  • All periods remain one hour long, except for Period 5 on Wednesdays, which will be 50 minutes.
  • The Special Character slot in the afternoon will follow the same schedule as previously (please see the timetable below).

We firmly believe that this shift to a 10-day timetable aligns with our dedication to providing a progressive and effective educational experience for our students. Thank you for your continued trust and partnership in ensuring the success of our school community.

If you have any questions about the new timetable, please get in touch with Gina Fitchett, Deputy Principal of Teaching and Learning at gfitchett@wdsg.school.nz

Blessings
