Dio CommunicationsNovember 16, 2023

As we round out a busy year, the department thanks all our outgoing leaders and code captains and congratulate our new leaders coming on board for 2024. We look forward to working with you and seeing the value you can add to the role of Sport here at Dio. We are also excited to welcome our new Director of Sport, Darlene Karena, into the department!

Amongst the exams and end-of-year assessments, much sport still takes place! Here are some recent results and information about upcoming events.

Dio Netball Rep

Congratulations to our 2024 Deputy Head Girl, Tia Lord, who has been selected to attend the Netball NZ National Development Camps in January.

The three-day camps are attended by the best NZ secondary school netball talent across the country, where they will be tested and challenged in all aspects of the game.

Tia was selected to attend the Advanced WBOP Magic in the Making session earlier this month, where the WBOP Netball Zone nominated her to attend these camps.

Well done, Tia, on your hard work and dedication. We are very proud of you!

Dio Rugby 7s

This term, we have had a strong U16 team compete in the Twilight 7s league, quickly developing skills and building successful performance. The team has now secured a place in the Condors U16 Invitational Tournament in Mount Maunganui on December 3 and 4.

Dio Rowing

The Rowing season is officially underway, with their first regatta on November 18 and 19, racing in the colours of Waikato Rowing Club. The squad will compete again the first weekend of December before heading to Whakamaru for their December camp and final regatta for 2023 on December 15-17.

Dio Futsal

Futsal has been up and running this term, our Senior A team is enjoying new coach Brad Duggan (Dio Dad), and our juniors are learning a lot and having fun with returning coach Derek Tieku.

Dio Inline Hockey

We are running two teams for the first time this term! Congratulations to outgoing code captain Liv Davys, who has been instrumental in increasing recent participation.

Dio Water Polo

Term 4 means junior water polo! Our junior team is (for the first time) playing in a mixed competition this term. They are breaking into a girls' competition this week as they enter the semifinals and finals stage and sit at the top of the girls' table. Go Dio!

Dio Volleyball

It’s also junior volleyball season. This year, we have boasted three competitive teams and four social teams in the Waikato Volleyball Competition, the highest number we've ever had in the junior season, signifying another step forward in a monumental year for the code.

Thank you to our dedicated coaches Shayla Thompson, and students Petra Pratt-Rink, Brooke Thomas, Amy Thomas, and Samantha Taylor.
