What was the Boarding Council up to in Term Two?
May Ball - Friday 19 May 2023 - Atrium - Wintec
This event was one of the many highlights of term three, and both day and boarding girls in years 12 and 13 were planned and prepped for the evening. It was great to see so many of our year 11 boarders as helpers on the night as well as to see Ms Monney (year 11 House Parent), Whaea Gwen (years 12 & 13 House Parent) and Whaea Jackie (Director of Boarding), attending in support.
St Paul's Collegiate and Dio Chapel at WDSG - Sunday, 28 May 2023
On the evening of Sunday, the 28th of May, our Dio boarders attended a chapel service with St Paul's Collegiate in our All Saints' Chapel. Our chapel was led by Emma Clapcott, our Head of Boarding, and her Boarding Council. The theme of the chapel was, of course, He Waka Eke Noa with a focus on the Day of Pentecost, which commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ while they were in Jerusalem celebrating the Feast of Weeks. We are grateful for the support of Rev Stephen Black and Mrs Angela Smith.
House Singing 2023 - Friday 23 June
Despite the ups and downs of term two caused by the PPTA rostered action home, House Singing was amazing! Lani Kete, Meg Crawford and Molly Roberts, our resident house leaders in boarding, were the picture of calm, cool and collected. Our boarding girls were very excited and were practising right up until they boarded the buses to Claudelands GloBox Arena!
Matariki Celebrations in Boarding - Week 10
The last week of the term was a celebration of all things Matariki. Matariki is a time of reflection, renewal and remembrance. We celebrated this time with a Matariki-themed dinner and ate beautifully prepared food by our catering team. Our school kapa - Te Kahu Piihoptanga o Waikato - also performed a few waiata for us in celebration as well. We enjoyed seeing and hearing their musical talents and supporting our boarders in the roopu (Harper McNaughten and Tiaria Potaka). Our kapa roopu, led by Amiria Douglas (Amokura), also performed and led her end-of-term chapel service. Again they were amazing. The celebration of Matariki did not just end with a themed dinner as boarders were treated to Matariki-themed supper and dancing in some cases too!
We are looking forward to term three. Bring it on!
