Future Rocket Designers
Nadene Brouwer - May 4, 2021
In early April, Kidsfirst Ilam and Kidsfirst Trengrove tamariki had the opportunity to watch some pre-made bottle rockets being launched at their centres. This sparked many wonderings and much curiosity about space, travel, rockets, and design. The excited children posed many questions about their theories around if the rockets would get to the moon, and how far they would go. This led into an ongoing investigation with their kaiako into Space and the design process of making rockets that would go far. Over some time the tamariki designed their own rockets, named them, added special features like eyes, coloured fins, paint, paper and glitter. Rachaelle and Nadene from the Kāhui Ako came back to assist in the launches. The children were proud, tino poho kererū, when their rockets went far into the sky, spraying their kaiako with glittery wai! The parent help in filling the bottles and helping to use the pump was much appreciated and they could see the whakhī of their children. Thank you so much to Munira and Lauren for collaborating with the Kāhui to make this shared experience happen.
