Te Ahu O Te Reo Māori, 2nd Semester 2022 - Sign Up Now!
Semester 2 registration for these free Māori courses closes on 6th July.
Te Ahu o te Reo Māori is a kaupapa funded by the Ministry of Education. Teachers and any staff working in schools/ECE can attend free weekly courses to improve their te reo Māori and knowledge of cultural narratives. Additionally, there is a $500 incentive payment per staff member that is paid to the kura/centre on completion.
Classes will begin in week 1 or week 2 of Term 3 2022. There will be a break for the school holidays, and graduation is likely to be in week 6 or 7 of Term 4. Registrations for Semester 2 2022 close on Wednesday, July 6 2022.
There are both face-to-face and online options for study.
Face-to-face classes involve a 3-hour class once a week for 14 weeks. These will be held on a weeknight 4-7pm. There are also 2 wānaka days, which will be held either on a school holiday day or a weekend day. One is likely to be an online webinar, and one is likely to be in person.
Online sessions are kept shorter at 2.5 hours. There are also 2 wānaka days, which will be held on a school holiday day or a weekend day. One is likely to be an online webinar, and one is likely to be in person.
Online options are reserved for those who live remotely or are unable to attend in person for legitimate reasons. We strongly encourage you to attend a face-to-face session if you are able as language acquisition levels are much higher in this setting.
Classes are open to all levels from beginners through to more experienced speakers. Here is the link to the explanation of the levels: https://www.kauwhatareo.govt.nz/assets/Te-Ahu-o-te-Reo-Maori/522760c5b7/Nga-Taumata-o-Te-Ahu-o-te-Reo-Maori-2021.pdf
