This Ngāi Tahu/Kāi Tahu whakataukī means 'for us and our children after us'.

Last term, students from Waimate High School who descend from the eponymous ancestor of Ngāi Tahu/Kāi Tahu, Tahu Pōtiki, visited their tribal headquarters, Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu. We were hosted by the team from Tokona te Raki (Māori futures).  This also included a tour around their 'whare', Te Whare o Te Waipounamu. This was a wonderful first hand experience for our students, to be making connections with their iwi/tribe. Earlier in the day we also travelled to Kaiapoi High School to spectate at the Ngā Manu Kōrero Speech competitions. Again, an amazing experience for our students and something to aspire to in the future. I would like to thank Sarah Martin for accompanying us on the day and our wonderful ākonga/students for being a part of this journey.
