Principal's Word - Term 3 Week 4

Jo Hunnikin —

Kia ora everyone,

We had lots of fun with Arts week this week. Great organisation by our prefects with dancing, singing and arts activities going on all week.

On Monday, we had a guest speaker, Jake Bailey, come to speak to our Year 9 to 13 students about the power of resilience. Jake first caused a global sensation aged 18, when his prize-giving speech as head boy at Christchurch Boys’ High School went viral. A week before this speech, Jake was diagnosed with the most aggressive form of cancer known to man and given two weeks to live if this went untreated. Jake persevered to give his speech from a wheelchair, the video of which went on to touch the hearts of tens of millions and draw praise from across the globe. He shared his journey with our students and gave them some tips on how to be resilient.

Next week we have exam week for our senior students. A big thank you to our teachers who are going above and beyond to get our seniors ready for their exams.

Please remember that we have a mid-term break next Friday and that school will be closed.

Have a great weekend,

Jo
