VAIASO O LE GAGANA SAMOA - SAMOA LANGUAGE WEEK 2025!

Kellie Tagiaia —

‘Ia malu lou sā. Folau i lagimā / A well-grounded self, is a successful self’.

Talofa lava!

This week we celebrate Samoa Language Week across New Zealand, the third most spoken language in Aotearoa. This year's theme is "Ia malu lou sā. Folau i lagimā – A well-grounded self, is a successful self". Meaning that when a sailing boat is built strong and sturdy, it can weather any storm. Similarly, when we build a strong foundation within ourselves, we can face life's challenges with confidence and resilience.

Samoan Language Week celebrates and preserves the Samoan language and culture, connecting communities and strengthening cultural ties for future generations. Practice your Gagana Samoa (Samoan language) this week with these seki (awesome) phrases.
