🏀WAIMATE MINIBALL REPRESENTATIVE TEAMS🏀
Beginning in March, the Waimate Miniball Club had four Waimate representative teams playing in the South Canterbury Intermediate competition held in Timaru on a Monday night.
The Year 7 girls' team, coached by Lauriann Hodder continued to grow as a team as their season progressed. Coming together as a team for the first time in 2023, the girls worked hard week in and week out, finishing the season strong.
The Year 8 girls’ team, coached by Georgia Soper, Emily Cooney and Elie Craig had a fantastic season. With the majority of the team playing together in 2022 when they placed 1st, the team went from strength to strength throughout the season. The girls fought their way to the finals, winning in a tough 1st and 2nd playoff match against Waimataitai.
The boys’ Year 7 & 8 Blue team coached by Abbie Joyce and Sajin Tamang gave the season their all, with many of their matches coming down to the final seconds. The boys continued to grow as a team as the season progressed, improving not only as individuals but also as a team.
The boys’ Year 7 & 8 Black team coached by Maggie Robertson, also had an amazing season. Their incredible season also saw them in their respective 1st and 2nd playoff. The nail biting final was won by the boys with the game tied with seconds to spare, with Cameron Lane shooting a free-throw after the final whistle to win them the game.
A massive congratulations to the Waimate High School students involved in both coaching and playing in this competition.
Good luck to the Waimate High School students who are representing Waimate in the holidays at the North Otago tournament.
