"She was suffering from bone cancer"

What is “Humans of WHS”?

“Humans of WHS” is the opportunity to tell the tale of someone within our school community.

It is a research project that will enable Year 9 students to apply what they have learned about narrative texts to capture a meaningful story. It is based on the famous photography project “Humans of New York” , https://www.humansofnewyork.com/ . The Year 9s had an interview process and their goals were to tell a story, capturing as many details as possible, be respectful and demonstrate superb listening skills. I hope you enjoy this project that the Year 9 English classes have put together for you.

When I asked Charlie about the saddest moment of his life so far, he did not have to think, it was when he had to put his dog Pearl down. He said, “The reason we had to put Pearl down was because she was suffering from bone cancer and was starting to have trouble moving and walking around so we made the hard decision to put her out of her misery.”  This large event in Charlie's life happened in term three in week 4 of 2024, he described Pearl as being a black labrador with a little bit of rottweiler. Pearl was eight human years old at the time. Charlie said that he felt a mix of emotions on that day, he was sad but also happy because he was reflecting on the memories he made with Pearl.   By Alex
