Principal's Word - Term 3 Week 9
Kia ora everyone,
Firstly, apologies for not writing an article last week. I was away in Twizel at a conference with no laptop!
Last night, we celebrated the Arts with our annual Soiree. It was an amazing event with a huge variety of musical pieces, as well as a dance and a display of artwork. It was the biggest turn out we have had for a number of years and students from every year level were represented. A huge thank you Miriam Morton who has stepped in this year as our Music teacher and supported our students. Thank you to the parents who have supported their children.
On Wednesday night, we met with the Waimate Opportunities Project to put forward a proposal for further development of our Agricultural programme at the Racecourse. It is hoped that we can develop this space into a learning hub, not just for our students but for primary schools and other groups. Students spoke to the committee members about their experiences at the racecourse and how their practical experiences made sense of their classroom learning. Watch this space!
Next term we are starting the refurbishment of our English and Social Science departments. A $1.5 million dollar project that not only will increase our learning spaces but update them too.
Finally, next term is the first day of our cellphone free policy. On Monday I will be talking to our students about our new processes to support this policy. I will also be writing to parents with the same information.
Have a great weekend,
Jo
