CRICKET YEAR 7&8 TOURNAMENT
On Thursday our Year 7&8 Cricket team went to Timaru to compete in a tournament run by South Canterbury Cricket.
First up Waimate High School played Glenti. It was a great first game for Waimate High. They were put into bat first. Waimate High School put 115 on the board off 20 overs for Gleniti to chase. The whole team got a bat. Jack Stringer 6 runs off the first ball of the match, 16 runs off the first over. Angus Hart and Hamish Tiffen batted well, both retired. Cam Lane and Lewis Gardner both not out. Gleniti lost 2 early wickets to Jack Stringer. Then settled in for a strong run chase. Some great fielding with 2 excellent run outs from Jack and Cam. Lachie bowled a great wicket which led into a nail biter of a finish. Gleniti just managing to take the win with 2 balls remaining from the final over.
Second match, Waimate High played Mt Hutt. Waimate High won the toss, putting Mt Hutt in to bat. Jack Stringer 1st wicket off the first over, caught and bowled. Angus Hart taking a great catch deep mid wicket, bowled Lewis Gardner in the second over of the match. 3rd wicket falling to a thick edge caught by the keeper, Hamish Tiffen off a great Jack Stringer ball. 4th wicket falling to Hamish Tiffen taking a great gloved throw down run out from a ball dribbled to point, off another tidy Ruby Chapman delivery. Hutt putting 131 runs on the board. WHS reply bit slow to start, Hamish Tiffen stand out batter ending up 60 all out. Great display of sportsmanship.
A huge thank you to Avril and Brendan Lane for taking the team to Timaru and coaching them.
