Principal's Word - Term 3 Week 7

Jo Hunnikin —

Kia ora everyone,

What a great week to be a principal! On Tuesday I was lucky enough to join our Year 9 and 10 ski trip to Roundhill Ski Area.  We took 35 students up the mountain and had fabulous weather. I admit, I was a bit nervous as I hadn't skied for over 16 years but once I'd gotten over how uncomfortable my ski boots were I had a great day. Our students were amazing and some certainly exhibited our school value of resilience, especially the new snowboarders trying to navigate the lifts! A huge thank you to Matt Simonsen for his impeccable organisation and the staff and parents who came along to help make it a fantastic day for all.

Yesterday, I travelled up to Timaru to watch both the basketball teams compete in the Southern Secondary Schools Cup tournament. The girls needed to win their game to qualify for the final. It was a close game against Trinity Catholic College but our girls played brilliantly and won! So it's another trip to Timaru tonight to watch the final! Good luck girls - you've got this! Our boys played Roncalli in another closely fought game. We led most of the game but fell short in the last few minutes with the game ending 60-61 to Roncalli. I'm very proud of all of our students who are out representing Waimate High School this week. I'm looking forward to hearing how the netball girls got on in their tournament in Invercargill.

Have a great weekend,

Jo
