🏀NEW ZEALAND ZONE 4 SECONDARY SCHOOLS A PREMIERSHIP BASKETBALL🏀
Waimate High School sent two teams to the New Zealand Zone 4 A Premiership Basketball Tournament in Dunedin.
Congratulations to the Girls team for coming 2nd in the competition. This girls team was in was put together a month ago with players from three different Waimate High School teams. The girls played teams from Kavanagh College, Greymouth High School and Roncalli College.
On day one our first game for the girls was against Kavanagh College from Dunedin. The girls were very nervous going into this game. Losing 58-32.
Second game was against Greymouth High School. This was a very tall and experienced team. Our girls put themselves out there and really tried hard. Losing 76-35.
On day two of the tournament the girls first game was against Roncalli College. The girls by this game had really started to come together as a team. Coming away with the win 65-40. This meant that we were 3rd going into semi finals.
Our semi final was against Kavanagh College. This was when the girls really clicked and put absolutely everything they had into the game. Leaving everything on the court coming away with the win 71-38.
This meant on day three we were in the final for 1st and 2nd and were playing Greymouth. The girls play extremely well to come away in 2nd place.
Congratulations to all the girls. You should be so proud of yourselves. Thank you to Ruby Cochrane for coaching the girls and coming away on tournament.
The boys team were is a pool with teams from Catholic Catheral College, Rangiora High School, Aparima College and Dunstan High School.
On day one the boys the boys first game was against Kavanagh College, the boys had a good start to the tournament only losing 59-70
The second game on day one was against Catholic Cathedral College, this was a really tough team but the boys heald their own for most of the game losing 47-84.
Day two the boys came up against Rangiora New Life School and Aparima College. The boys were really starting to gel as a team now not losing by large margins to these teams.
Day three the boys played Dunstan High School, and Buller High School. They came away with a well deserved win against Buller. This was a real team effort and everyone playing so well.
On the last day the boys came up against Catholic Cathedral College again. This time coming away with a 50-49 win. This was a nail biter 😊, the boys have grown so much as players being away on tournament. Congratulations to you all you should be so proud of yourselves.
