FUTURE PATHWAYS
Ecological Restoration Work
Year 12 student Joshua Phillips planted 69 trees with the Friends of Studholme Bush Reserve group recently. The group is a charitable Trust whose aim is 'The ecological restoration and continued protection of Studholme Bush Scenic Reserve that results in a flourishing native, self-sustaining, predominantly forest ecosystem with supporting native habitats'. They are one of a number of small nature reserves adjacent to the Waimate Township. They work collaboratively with other like minded groups who are aiming to be part of a mainland conservation island in South Canterbury that one day will see the re-introduction of native species not seen here in over a century. Josh is part of the Waimate High School Gateway programme exploring his future pathways. Being able to experience ecological restoration and protection work firsthand with the Friends of Studholme Bush Reserve group is supporting his future pathway goals.
