On Monday 8 of our year 7 and 8 students competed in a Junior Chess Tournament in Oamaru.

69 players competed from 13 schools for a day of intense competition and fun.

The event was split into 4 age groups with our students having considerable success against both experienced and new players. Multiple students received badges for winning via unique checkmates and Fred Bennett received a medal for 3rd overall in the Under 12 age group.

It was an awesome day with all our students being fantastic representatives for our school. Practice for next years Aoraki Chess Tournament is already underway and I encourage anyone interested in chess to come along at lunchtime to Mr Harbour’s lab A11.
