Principal's Word - Term 4 Week 4
Kia ora everyone!
The celebration season just keeps on going! On Friday night, last week, I attended the 2024 Aoraki Secondary Schools' Sports Awards that was held at Caroline Bay Hall. We had 3 category finalists, which on its own is fantastic! Erica Lucas was a finalist for Athletics, Elie Craig was a finalist for Rugby and Emily Cooney was a finalist for Basketball. Even better, was that both Elie and Emily won their finals! Erica and Emily also received New Zealand honours which is only awarded to students who have been selected into a New Zealand team, or placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd at National Championship level for their code. High honours indeed! Emily Cooney was also recognised for her contribution to basketball, one of only 7 students, from across the whole region. It was a great night for Waimate High School sports and such a privilege to be part of it.
And the winning continues! Mr Carswell and Mr Harbour took 4 teams of students up to Ashburton last week to compete in the "Clash of the Colleges" agriculture competition that was held at the Ashburton A&P show. There were over 70 teams competing and Waimate High School placed FIRST and THIRD!! Congratulations to all involved! First place team members were Fergus Robertson, Blake Paling, Jonty Charles and Lewis Gardner and in the third place team was Briar Craig, Sophie Hargreaves, Penny Smith and Zaylee Davis.
Tomorrow, we're off to the show where we will be holding the second heat of our Grow-Kart race! Come along to see the world's first grow-kart race. A project that our Year 7 and 8 students have been working on.
Have a great weekend,
Jo
