From the Principal - Week 7 Term 3

Kia ora everybody,

This week, we welcomed Belinda Muller, our new Food Technology teacher to Waimate High School. Belinda comes to us from Avondale College in Auckland. She moved to New Zealand in 2019 with her husband Mark from Capetown in South Africa. Belinda has had a busy week, meeting all of our students and getting to know our staff and school.

The driving simulator arrived this week and you can read more about that in a separate article. It was given the thumbs up by Mayor Rowley who was the first to have a go on the simulator. From next year we will be supporting all of our students in Years 12 and 13 to get their driving licences as part of our new "ready to work" initiative. All students in Year 12 next year will have the opportunity to achieve credits in Health and Safety and First Aid which should ultimately help them with future work opportunities.

Nominations are open for our Student Trustee who sit on the Board of Trustees. Students from Year 9 upwards are eligible to be nominated and voting will occur on September 30.

Have a lovely weekend,

Jo
