SOUTH CANTERBURY CAREERS EXPO

On Wednesday 7th September, our year 11 students headed to Timaru to attend the South Canterbury Careers Expo. A fabulous day and well organised. A huge thank you to the event organisers, sponsors, local businesses, careers speakers, staff and students.

Here's what our students had to say .... I had so much fun. It was good to get involved with the different career options and to listen to all the different people's jobs. In particular I really liked looking around the expo stands and the Army and Navy stand. Annabelle Agnew

It was pretty good, some of the primary industries were represented and a lot of NZ is based on primary industries. It would be good to see more of the workers involved in the expo alongside the company reps. Tate Hargreaves

I didn't realise there are so many job opportunities for us and I was so happy to hear that. Seeing people enjoying their jobs motivated me to do well in my school work to reach my goals. I liked the talking to the policewoman and hearing about her experiences. Jashlie Gascon

The expo was good for understanding what careers are out there. There is a lot out there to do. I enjoyed hearing about the different businesses. I really enjoyed hearing from the Electrical Engineering rep and he gave me some information to take away and read. Rhianna Cheetham

I liked meeting the different career people and talking about their jobs and walking around the careers expo stalls to see about the different jobs. Haylee-Jade Willis

I enjoyed the careers expo because I got to learn about different career paths and I learnt things I didn't know about. I learnt that you can do engineering in the navy and they pay for your training. Sajin Tamang

I really enjoyed the careers expo. I am new to NZ and I didn't know there were opportunities for skilled and unskilled workers. Also hearing that Engineering and Construction is not just for boys inspired me and other girls to take that option if they wanted. Hanne Dirker
