AORAKI SECONDARY SCHOOLS 3V3 BASKETBALL

    by Nicole Cooney

As part of Summer Tournament week, we had four Waimate High School teams head to Aoraki Secondary Schools 3v3 Basketball competition in Ashburton on Tuesday.

Our senior girls team (Emily Cooney, Georgia Soper, Ruby Shortus and Abbie Joyce) and our junior girls team (Sally Cooney, Zaylee Davis, Kayla Proudfoot and Lily-Kay Henare) were both put in the same grade. They played teams from Ashburton and ended up playing each other. The senior girls placed 3rd and the junior girls placed 6th.

Our senior boys team (Jordy Sew Hoy, Ken Calderon, Repo Perez and Sajin Tamang) played teams from Waitaki Boys, Mountainview and Ashburton College. Due to an injury, Emily Cooney and Ruby Shortus also helped the boys out. They finish 7th in the senior boys competition.

Our junior boys team (Axyl Bailey, Henry Lucas, Eli Taupo and Hunter Briggs) played teams from Ashburton College, Waitaki Boys and Ashburton Christian School. These boys really got into the swing of the 3v3 game, finishing 7th in the junior boys competition.

Well done to all of the players. 3v3 is a different game but all of the players really enjoyed it!

A huge thank you to Ruby Cochrane, Nicole Cooney, Jason Sew Hoy and Jess Bailey for taking the students to Ashburton and coaching the teams.
