Anyone searching for and applying for a job will need to produce a good CV to showcase what they have to offer. This applies for part-time work while you are at school, an apprenticeship or full-time employment.
CVs can be quite basic when you have little or no work experience and in this case will focus more on your personal qualities and transferable skills. Those are skills you can transfer from your involvement in: sports, music, cultural activities, hobbies, school leadership roles, volunteering work and so on.
When choosing referees, make sure they are people who know you well, will recommend you to potential employers, and endorse your skills, experience, and character. Remember to always ask the person if they are happy to give a positive reference first!
To optimise your CV for applicant tracking systems (ATS), incorporate relevant keywords and phrases from the job description. However, ensure that these keywords are naturally integrated and do not compromise the overall readability and flow of your CV.

It's also a good idea before starting your job search to clean up social media profiles to reflect a professional online presence or make your profiles private. Most employers will search for you online during the application process.
Your cover letter to the employer accompanies your CV and needs to demonstrate:
why you are interested in the job
what relevant skills and experience you have to suit this job
why an employer should bother to read your CV
It needs to be accurate, easy to read and not simply repeat the content of your CV. Make it personalised and captivating. Express your enthusiasm for the position and relate your experiences to the job requirements. Address it to the correct person and proofread carefully.
