POLICE PCT CHALLENGE

    by wendy napper

This morning, four of our Year 8's competed at the Police Physical Competency Challenge in Timaru. There were 18 teams from all over South Canterbury. Santi, Cam, Kourtney and Sammy drew a midfield position to complete their attempt. This gave them time to observe some of the other teams (and also for the nerves to build!) and make tactical decisions for their approach. They raced around the course, working together as a team, before a nervous wait while the other teams finished. During their wait, they were able to engage with the local police officers and have fun using the distortion goggles and having their top speed tracked by radar.

The top three spots were announced with Waimate High School named alongside Waihi School and Mackenzie College for the showdown. It was hard to believe but our team shaved nine seconds off their first-round time to be the overall champions. To make us even prouder, there were many awesome sideline comments about our team. Not only did our team cheer loudly for the other teams in the final, but they also shook all the athletes' hands on completion. Well done Sammy, Kourtney, Cam and Santi, you represented our school brilliantly.
