Principal's Word - Term 2 Week 5

    by Nicole Cooney

Kia ora everyone,

I hope you all managed to see the beautiful sunrise this morning! I was out earlier than usual this morning at the Community Leaders breakfast at Knox Church Hall with 2 of our prefects and the sunrise was stunning. I've attached a couple of photographs of it to this article.  The breakfast was a great event with guest speakers talking on topics from volunteering by Sharyn Cain to time management by Michael Downes.  Our prefects chatted with Jo Sutherland, from Waimate2gether about the upcoming winter festival and in particular how they could help with the 'line-dancing event', so watch this space!

Yesterday a group of students travelled to Christchurch for the iSport Foundation Leadership Day. There were a range of big name guest speakers including Richie McCaw, Dan Carter and Dame Valerie Adams. Please check out our Facebook page to see the speakers in action as the event was live-streamed. You can find out more about the event by clicking here. I'm looking forward to catching up with the students who attended to see what they learnt.

I'd like to congratulate Anne Harvey, our Head of English, who has been appointed Acting Deputy Principal. We are all looking forward to working with Anne in this role and I am sure she will excel in it.

This term we are reviewing our "EOTC" policies. These policies are crucial in the way we manage our trips so please take time to review them. The review is open until the end of the term.

To find our policies:

  • Click on this link https://www.schooldocs.co.nz/ (or google "school docs").

  • Search for "Waimate High School" (or you can use this link to go straight there)

  • Log in using the following details - username "waimate-high" password "learning".

  • To see what policies are under review, click the "under review button"

  • Click on a policy and if you wish to submit feedback then click on the red "under review button". The feedback can be anonymous or you can add your name.

  • A link to the School Docs site is also available through our school website.

Finally, the industrial action is currently suspended until 31st May. I must apologise for not alerting all of our parents via email of the suspension. We put a message out via Facebook but this did not reach all of our community. I will convey further information about the industrial action via email.

Have a great weekend,

Jo
