AORAKI SECONDARY SCHOOL JUNIOR GIRLS BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

On Wednesday our Junior Girls Basketball team (Year 9&10) competed in the Aoraki Secondary School Junior Girls Basketball Tournament in Timaru.

There was 10 teams entered in the Aoraki Secondary Schools Junior Girls Competition split into two pools. Teams were from Craighead, Waitaki Girls, Timaru Girls, Roncalli, Mountain View and Ashburton.

Our first game of the day was a toughy against Ashburton College 1.  This was a close, even game unfortunately   Losing 25-20.

The second game was against Mountain View High School.  The girls played extremely well coming away with the win 41-12.

The third game of the day was against Craighead 2.  This was a very low scoring game with neither team scoring for the first 5 minutes.  The girls were really strong on defence.  We came away with win 14-4.

The forth game was against Timaru Girls High School 9A.  We knew this was going to be a tough game.  The girls really played as a team with strong defence and some great offencive moves unfortunately losing 18-11.

We finished 3rd in our pool so we went into playoffs for 5th and 6th.  We were up against Ashburton 2. The girls put absolutely everything into this game as it was the last game of the tournament.  Coming away with the win 28-13.

Well done girls you played so well and represented the school at a high standard.

A huge thank you to the girls coach Ruby Cochrane for coming away for the day and coaching the girls.  Also a huge thank you to Brenna Bennett for refereeing for the school for the day.
