Principal's Word

From the Principal - Week 10 Term 2
    by Emma Setterfield

Kia ora everybody,

We've made it to the end of what has been another very busy and action-packed term. I'm always impressed by the energy of our students who are involved in so much of what is going on at school, particularly our senior students.

Last weekend was a great example of what our seniors can organise with the very successful school ball. I have to say that last week's ball was the best ball I've ever been to (and I'm not being biased in any way!). Our students were exemplary and they all looked fabulous in their ball attire. Our staff scrubbed up pretty well too! I would like to thank the staff who helped with the ball and our amazing PTA who kept us all well-fed and worked tirelessly behind the scenes.

The end of the term sees us saying farewell to two staff members; Tim Caird who has been with the school for 18 months working in the Technology department and Vicki Scott, one of our Teacher Aides who has worked with us for over 19 years. We wish them both well on the next stages of their journey and thank them for their service to Waimate High School. Both will be sorely missed.

We are holding our House Choir competition this afternoon and I have the unenviable task of judging it - wish me luck - we will report on the winners shortly.

COVID update.

As our COVID situation has remained fairly static I will no longer be providing specific updates each week. Our attendance this week is at its lowest all year with other types of sickness.

Total positive cases: 141 students and 19 staff members

Current cases: 4 students and 3 staff

Isolating household contacts: 5 students

Recovered students back at school: 137

Average attendance for this week: 60%

I hope that you are able to rest and recharge over the next couple of weeks.

Take care

Jo
