Sports Report
A slow start to the year with Covid restrictions impacting on events, but still lots of positive news to report.
We have a great group of students to welcome as our 2022 Sports Captains – Ryan Flowers, Zia Goff, Hamish Chisnall, Sam Crawford, Taj Wilson-Keen and Lilly Zwart. We look forward to seeing you out there supporting our students and being exceptional role models.
Our 1st XI Cricket team had the honour of being named and capped by ex-student and Central Hinds player Claudia Green. Their first game was against Nelson College. Unfortunately it did not go as planned but great to have the team playing in the D’Arcy Cup for the first time in a number of years.
The Tasman Secondary Schools Tennis Champs took place with our mixed team of Maia Kininmonth, Tina Waine, Stanley Vercoe, Finley Clark and Luke O’Toole finishing 3rd with lots of close games.
Maia and Kat Jones competed at the 3x3 Basketball Quest tour in Christchurch recently, finishing the tournament unbeaten. Congratulations!
Ollie Spiers was part of the New Zealand Rowing Nationals held at Twizel. Ollie’s intermediate coxed four team gained a Silver medal for Nelson Rowing.
Destiny Sproul and Isabella Thurlow were recently named respectively in the U15 and U19 Te Waipounamu Maori Netball teams. There were over 120 players who trialed throughout the South Island to be a part of these teams and these teams will compete at the Aotearoa Maori Netball Nationals at Easter weekend in Palmerston North.
