As some of Waimea’s senior students, we would like to express our thoughts over an environmental concern. We would also like to offer a solution, as we are aiming to create a culture of sustainability – not just at Waimea, but also our wider community.

Dear parents/caregivers/students of Waimea College,

We are concerned about the amount of plastic waste in our school. A good portion comes from lunch packaging. We are asking you to think about ways we can all decrease the amount of plastic waste that comes into school. One idea is using more sustainable packaging eg: lunch boxes, wax wraps, reusable containers, rather than plastics that are not reusable and not ethically sourced.

One way we hope to draw attention to this is by designing and painting rubbish bins with some key messaging.
