Tara Hope —

We have an amazing group of students to welcome as our 2023 Sports Captains.

Congratulations to new Sports Captains Will Blight, Nathan Downey, Maia Kininmonth, Hannah Robertson and Josh Scott. We look forward to seeing you out there supporting our students and Waimea College Sport.

Our Senior A Mixed Touch team travelled to Rotorua over the holidays, where they finished 7th in the NZ Secondary Schools Nationals. A big thanks to Mrs Stark, Jaxon Taikato and Kelly Delany for looking after the team.

We also had a strong team competing at the NZ Secondary Schools National Athletic Champs in Inglewood over the holidays, well done to Brooke Bowen, Bella Cain-Townley, Mia Cain-Townley, Amelia Clark, Noah Lausen, Molly McManus, Heidi Stephens and Ben Walker who all represented Waimea College.

Seb Lams and Nathan Davies recently competed in the NZSS Beach Volleyball tournament in Mount Maunganui, finishing 9th overall against some incredible competition.

Cam McLean, Eddie Swain and Annie Swain competed in the Coast2Coast recently and finished 2nd in the Mixed Section. Cam completed the bike leg, Eddie the 31km mountain run and Annie the 74 km kayak down the braided Waimakariri River. Congratulations, guys. What an achievement!

The Tasman Secondary Schools Tennis Champs took place recently, with a large team of 13 players competing. Maia Kininmonth and George Osborne took out the Mixed Competition, and our Girls team of Hailey Muller, Brooke Robinson and Libby McLean won the Girls Division 2 Grade. Our Boys team of Stanley Vercoe, Finley Clark, Fynn Becker and Cameron Lukey also did extremely well, finishing 2nd in a highly competitive Division 1.

The Year 10 Cricket team took on Christchurch Boys High last week, and despite a wet morning causing a delay to the start, they had a fantastic day. Unfortunately they didn't get the win, but are the first team to ever reach a century (getting 102 runs) against CHC Boys.
