The winter season culminated in Winter Tournament Week, with teams spread from the bottom of the North Island to the bottom of the South Island.

There were over 90 students, coaches and managers, as well as parents, families and friends supporting these teams. A big thank you to all those involved, for your time and dedication to our athletes and their chosen sports, and a massive thank you to Pub Charity for their assistance in getting our athletes to their tournaments:

SISS Junior Basketball Boys – Dunedin

Melvyn Barbier, William Bradley, Cooper Hope, Raiden Little, Oliver Pickering, Zach Redpath, Zac Shirley , Chase Tauwhare, Harry Thomas , Larz Wadsworth. In their pool play the boys played Kaiapoi High (65-83 loss), Cashmere High (82-79 loss) and Ashburton (65-39 loss). They then went on to have a win against Wakatipu High, lose against St Bedes (86-67) and a win against Kaiapoi to finish 11th.

NZSS Hockey - Rankin Cup – Wellington

Top 32 school Hockey teams in New Zealand. Blake Barrett, Callum Burns, Jacob Finnigan, Robert Green, Ethan Jenkins, Cam McLean, Tommy McLean, Oscar Perrott , Riley Perrott, Carl Quinn, Jay Quinn , George Smith, Nico Stewart, Kerwin Taylor, Bryn Thurlow, Harry Turnhout. After successfully winning the Division 2 tournament in Nelson last year, the 1st XI team qualified to play in the Rankin Cup. In pool play the team had a loss to Tauranga Boys (who last year finished 5th), nil-all draw against Palmerston North Boys, a win against Otago Boys 4-1, and a win against Cambridge High. In the quarter-final they played Pukekohe High and won 5-1, but unfortunately, the team lost in the semi-final against Kings College, which saw them playing for the bronze medal against Napier Boys in the India Shield. Well done, boys, for finishing 4th.

Senior A Netball – SISS – Invercargill 

Grace Cliffe, Emily Connell, Maia Kininmonth , Shaylee Manson, Lili-Rose McCormick, Siena McMillan, Lexie Nisbett, Hailey Page-Gargiulo, Grace Shirley, Destiny Sproul, Lily Trench. The team won all their pool play games (Oxford Area School, Menzies College, Queens High, Waimate) convincingly but had a narrow loss in their cross-pool game against Timaru Girls (by 1 goal) which took them out of contention of the top 4 in B Grade. They finished strong, winning against Papanui and Mount Hutt College to finish 5th.

Senior A Basketball Boys – SISS - Dunedin

Cooper Adams, William Blight, Jonty Bond, Kaden Bracey, Hayden Jones , Jordy Moore, Noah Rogers, Jerome Sinclair, Lucas Trench, Coen Williams. The team had a great SISS campaign going undefeated against Nayland (99-40), James Hargest College (125-43), Otago Boys (93-65), Rolleston College (97-50), Kaiapoi High (113-49), Nelson College (78-70) at the SISS tournament and winning in a close game against Christ’s College (74-67). This made them South Island Champions and top seed for the Secondary Schools Nationals tournament being held in Palmerston North in the next school holidays!

Senior A Basketball Girls – SISS - Dunedin

Stella Blight, Lotte Dawson, Taylar Delany, Malia Denny, Aimee Hogue, Lucy Inch, Ava Jones , Cooper Phipps, Carly Scott, Enna Soutar. The girls finished on a successful note, finishing 7th with a win against Nayland College. Otago Girls High (58-32 win), Christchurch Girls (62-31 loss), Kaiapoi (70-52 loss), Columba (75-36 loss), Nayland (45-33 win). The team will be travelling to take part in the NZSS Nationals in Palmerston North after the withdrawal of a qualifying team.

Rugby Girls 10s team – Buller – Westport 

Ella Brereton, Samara Bright, Makenna Holland , Tessa Honey, Brooke Hutchinson, Amber McConnochie, Sophie Pemberton, Liana Peychers, Kasaea Pilo, Dominique Takimoana, Jade Urquhart, Monique Venter, Emma-Grace Walker , Tillie Young, (Grace Matthewson and Liana Warland – NCG and Garin). The rugby girls had a great tournament in Westport. They had a 34-31 win over Nayland, and beat Nelson College for Girls, Greymouth Combined and incurred a narrow loss against Queen Charlotte Girls. The team made it through to the grand final against St Andrews Girls. With a 17-17 draw at full time, the game was won by the Waimea girls, with a runaway try by Liana Peychers.

1st XI Football Boys – Jim Wishart tournament – Nelson

Taine Baigent, Harrison Carmichael, Finley Clark, Nathan Crawford, Eli Gapes (injured), David Macintosh, Lucas Marshall, Rylan Marshall, Findley Mold, George Osborn, William Papps , Derek Regenvanu, Rahiri Royal, Jett Royal, Yusa Tsuji, Theo Vickery, James Ward. The team played St Bernards (4-1 loss), Papanui High (2-1 loss), Nelson College 2nd XI (2-1 win), Rangiora (4-1 win), Marlborough Boys (0-2 loss) Wakatipu High (9-8 win) to finish 11th at this tournament. Congratulations to William Papps for being awarded MVP for the tournament.

NZSS Golf – Timaru

Jack Bell, Jackson Gosling , Shaun Smith finished 17th in New Zealand. The team qualified by being the winners at the TSS tournament and therefore represented Tasman at the New Zealand Secondary Schools.

SISS Equestrian – Christchurch

Mackenzie Burrell and Scarlett Rodd. The girls both individually got some great results at this event. Scarlett, competing at Open Elementary Level 3, placed 2nd and 4th, and Mackenzie, at Novice Level 2, finishing 7th and 9th, and 2nd for her last test. Scarlett finished 3rd overall in this event for dressage, with Mackenzie finishing 4th overall for dressage. In the show jumping, Mackenzie finished 6th from 22 overall, over the three days.
