Principal's Message

Scott Haines —

Warm greetings to families and friends of Waimea College. Welcome to our first newsletter for Term 3. I hope you all enjoyed a relaxing break over the holidays and got to enjoy some family time.

This term is shaping up to be exceptionally busy with lots of events on the school calendar. We hope that with the launch of our new website our families will find accessing this information easier than ever.

Our full school calendar and daily notices can be accessed with a click of a button on our Notices and Events page. Visit our sleek new website here www.waimea.school.nz.

With enrolments for 2022 now in full swing we are enjoying presenting our school to prospective students and their families. For a comprehensive on-line experience of what we can offer students at all Year Levels, including our new 2022 Prospectus, click: https://bit.ly/enrol-waimea2022.

We encourage you to share this with friends and family that may be considering Waimea College for their teen.

Open School – Monday 9 August

Each year Waimea College opens our campus to showcase the school to prospective students and their families. Our Open School event will be held next Monday, 9 August. We know this event will be a real success due to the hard work and dedication of our students, staff and volunteers. We have had over 150 of our students volunteer to come back to school after hours to help and support. I thank you all for being part of this and for promoting the many opportunities we provide to students.

Teacher Only Day – Wednesday 11 August

Earlier in the year, we shared with students and families that the government have allocated eight additional Teacher Only Days between 2020 and 2022 to support the implementation of changes to NCEA, and wider strengthening of curriculum, progress and achievement practice.

The second of these will occur on Wednesday 11 August, with the final one for 2021 on 2 December. Other important dates the school will also be closed are:

  • 2 September (Waimea College Teacher Only Day)
  • 3 September (Regional Secondary School Mid-term break)

As always, I thank you for your understanding as teachers here at Waimea and around New Zealand work their way through the significant changes that are being proposed to NCEA.

Junior Parent Teacher Interviews – Tuesday 17 & Thursday 19 August

We warmly invite you to attend Junior Parent Interviews coming up in Week 4. This is an opportunity to meet your teen's teachers and discuss their progress to date this year.

To book your interviews we use an online system as follows:

  • To access the portal, go to www.waimea.school.nz,
  • Click on the Portal Login button and then click on the Parent Interviews link.
  • Once logged into Parent Teacher Interviews, follow the prompts to book your Student Conference: Junior Parent Interview.
  • Staff are looking forward to meeting with as many caregivers as possible.

All the best for a fantastic Term 3.
Semper Contendite,
